Mad Mike Hughes, the Flat-Earther who wanted to launch himself into space so he could prove to us that the Earth is flat and that NASA has been lying to us, was killed when his steam-powered rocket plummeted to the earth shortly after takeoff. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! of the ill-fated launch was posted to Twitter

Or, he went from a flat Earther to a very flat Earther.

Since he was no stranger to conspiracy theories, I’ll offer up one more: He wasn’t in the rocket.

This is what happens when you don’t have a mature safety management system. Did he even have a copy of ICAO Annex 19?

The earth is round, Mike is flat.

I know a man died and all but, predictable death was predictable.

Senseless waste. Sad.

That sounds too much like science, he just used math.

I feel a little bit bad about making jokes. His flat earth beliefs aside (assuming he really did believe that and wasn’t just fleecing believers to fund his project as some have theorized), his dream of literally riding a rocket into space is one I’m sure most if not all of us can relate to. I admire his determination to actually try to make it happen instead of just dreaming of it while building lego models and playing Kerbal like the rest of us.
That said...

That poor rocket.

That steam rocket was not going to get you into orbit bro, I'm no rocket scientist but I know that.

Kerbal for life!! Im so stoked for KSP 2. Its shaping up to be a sick game. Also he was totally fleecing flat earthers, i have zero doubts abou t it from stuff ive watched in the past. That makes me laugh that he was having fun at their expense.

Didn’t check the METARS.

More likely his ro cket was sabotaged by NASA to prevent him proving that the moon landings (and everything else involving space, from Soyuz to GPS) were faked.

Q: How far will a steam rocket take you?
A: All the way to the scene of the crash.
I’m a terrible person and feel bad for that.

You should feel terrible, but I saw that coming.
Still, it was pretty impressive how high he got. But if you refuse to believe in science, you probably refuse to believe in people like Robert Goddard or Werner von Braun . Had you listened to them, you might have had a chance at being a bit more successful.

I had heard that he crashed and it had something to do with the parachute. I didn’t expect to see the chute ripped off on launch. I watched a video of a paraglider with a collapsed chute. Then he threw his emergency chute and it got tangled with the primary wing. It was then that he threw his other emergency chute. That’s the one that saved his life.
I would expect to have at least a couple of options for escape if I were going to launch myself with a steam rocket.

That’s actually the truth, not a conspiracy theory.
The question is, did he know about NASA’s plan, and fake getting in the rocket.
Everything we know is wrong.
